Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nyungwe Forest National Park is one of the best places to visit while in Rwanda, it is situated in the southwestern part of Rwanda along its borders with Burundi, the forest is said to have survived the ice age era, and the tropical rain forest is full of life known for the many primate species, 13 of which are present within the national park. It is one the best afro forests conserved in Africa between the Congo and Nile basin, The Angelic conservation area was established in 2004 as a way of protecting the animal species that call this home covering an area space of approximately 970 square Kilometers.

Nyungwe Forest National Park is blessed with a biodiverse ecosystem, with habitants that are endemic to the destination, the Chimpanzee is the most known primate of the national park, these the beautiful location has 12 more kinds and mammals like the forest elephants, forest hogs that are very shy and rare to see but are present in the national park, there are many tree species that have been recorded to date, the Nyungwe forest includes large species of Entandrophragma excels in the Mahogany family, tree fans, some of the species are endemic to the Albertine region, the fauna is incredible as you will have chances of meeting the L’hoest monkeys, Chimpanzees, baboons, grey checked Manga bay, Mona monkeys, blue Monkey, red tailed monkeys and Large troops of Black and white colobus Monkeys. Other species include the giant forest squirrels, bush pig, tree hyrax, and black-fronted duiker to mention a few.

The beautiful conservation area is home to over 400 species of birds most of which are forest birds and endemics, example sights include the olive pigeons. Cinnamon-breasted bee-eaters, handsome francolin, blue-headed sunbirds, olive thrush, African saw-wing, mountain wagtail, white starred robin to mention a few, besides the birds of the national park expect to see amphibians like frogs, reptiles, and beautiful butterfly species. Chimpanzee tracking is the most sought activity in the national park, tracking begins at the Umwika visitor center, with a morning briefing from the park rangers, these are known to share up to 98 % of the human DNA, characterized by their Charter sound, intelligence and social behavior, the forest is a beautiful place through the well-distributed game tracks of the conservation area.

The Nyungwe canopy walk is distinctive in East Africa, it is one of a Kind in East Africa, the walk through the suspended trees of the park is scenic, and it allows up to children of 6 years, the view of the forest from the above will expose you to the Vast forested area, there are chances of viewing the below forest creatures like primates, tracking back and white colobus monkeys, it an important area you can view these primates, imagine very many troops of the monkeys all in black and white color. It is one of the best destinations to see birds in Rwanda.
